Every day I am racking my brain to find a way to get more traffic to the sites. BUT that is a HOLE I have dug myself into many many many times.
I am starting to see things that just don’t work. They are holes that need to be filled in. and when I identify a Hole it needs to be filled. I can and have many times done noting planning out how im going to do it.
But one of the Biggest Holes I still see is a bone stock Home page that came with the script. WHY? Why does the owner of said site allow this to happen? This is hands down one of the biggest Holes in this business.
Getting attention is hands down one of the best things you can do to attract new members, affiliates and surfers into a traffic exchange. SO why DO so many intentionally limit themselves by not addressing the first impression people have of the site.
SO here is my question to anyone reading Are you more or less likely to sign up to a stock out of the box traffic exchange?
Do you feel this is worth the time energy and effort to be an affiliate or surfer of a Site that the owner has place little or no value on effort?
All the best to you and your Te Efforts
I have read many blog posts on how traffic exchanges don’t work. There seems to be so
many of them ranging from years back to this week. And the same argument happens over and over.
“Traffic exchange traffic isn’t targeted.”
That statement is so far off. I get it 1800 flowers is not likely to do as well in traffic exchanges then say banner ad maker. But it’s the niche that is the target.
Who are the people at the PC clicking and surfing Traffic exchanges
What to they drink?
What PC are they using?
What monitors or Anti viruses are they using?
What are they snacking on?
Do they use pens to write things down?
What kind of furniture are they using for the home office?
I can without straining think of over 100 name brands that can be targeted to the people who surf traffic exchanges. I didn’t even mention ONE single ONLINE product yet.
I have seen people sell beef Jerky and Mushroom coffee in this business with some success. I have personally bought that mushroom coffee at one point.
I guess the point im trying to make is like with any Niche you have to be skilled to make it work for you. Traffic exchange are no different. Just the low hanging fruit would be other traffic exchanges. Don’t mean Someone isn’t going to be replacing their PC in a week …… Imagine if you made a commissions on a PC sale. OR what about that new chair they need ( I personally have been through 5 in the 10+ years I have been online) so yes 1800 flowers is not going to be the best way to make money … Unless there is a sexy splash page floating around right now that says “ forgot Valentines day? send flowers now 19.99”
well I guess that would work you just have to find a way to make it work. Advertising in any shape is not guaranteed. What is the ROI on a billboard or a tv commercial?
Are traffic exchanges targeted YEAH they are if they are used correctly.
Doing a blog post like this Im going to hear grumbling and Im sure this will not make people all warm and fuzzy. But the value of a credit as a whole has dropped. The reason why is up for debate. But one thing is true the value of a credit has changed.
Reasons credits are worth less
More people using BOTS/cheaters.
Surf timers shrank But surf ratios stay the same.
Bigger and bigger signup bonuses.
Lower value in CPA (credits per action)
Less ad space
If it cost people 10- 12 seconds of time 4 years ago to earn .35 credits and now it takes 5 to 6 seconds the value of time has been cut in half. And the same holds true for the cash value $10 bucks per 1000 was not uncommon. Now $5 is the norm. or lower. The surf ratio didn’t change, just the timer and price.
Add in Actions taken per 1000 credits has been going down due to BOTS and just people learning to cheat the systems over all. It takes more credits to get the same actions that it took 1000 credits to get years ago.
But im hard pressed to come up with ways we have worked to increase the value of a credit. Some might debate Chat added value. And I can agree, but not to a credits value. As a whole Credits are worth less time and/or money than they were 4 years ago.
But here are some ways owners can boost the value of a credit without touching the timers:
Cap Surfing at XXX pages.
Bump the surf ratio for all members by 10%
Shrink the Surf Bars over all size. Less surfbar is more ads space.
Remove chat from surf and add it to the member’s area.
Here are some ways members can increase the value of a credit:
Use rotators with no headers
Use larger splash pages 17 “ monitors are the standard now.
Your brand is your name – your image- and your username make them work for you.
Track your traffic.
People can debate this till there blue in the face. But credits can be worth more and results can go up if we all pitch in at each site. Why are you surfing. Is it for small prizes OR is it a combo: To see whats out there Some contest some Signups and commissions?
All the Best,
Over the past 2 weeks I have been trying everything I can think of to add new members to my sites. With some success and some impressive failing too.
Splash IT –
Doing a little A B split testing is going well. Some splash pages just out preform others. But its good to know which ones are doing good better best. Much like the NFL ( that’s National football league) Im in my own play offs All the splash pages are getting tested with the same 5000 credits – Same Site – Same days. This will give me a concept of best to worst and which 2 to replace.
Squeeze IT –
Im writing ad copy for my first 3 Squeeze pages. They worked in the past and not many people are using them now. I will test and retest this process to refine it so that I can have a 2 Squeeze pages and be able to tell members where they are working.
Squish IT – I have taken a couple of the Splash pages and am adding a signup form to them. So far results have been promising. I think due in some way to ONE less click to take action.
I have seen countless study’s that with every click to join a site the more likely you are too loose that signup. Makes sense to me. The typical splash page is clicked it goes The Home page of the site. Then to A Join page then you fill in your info only to Click Join then the confirm process begins.
That’s 2 extra steps from the Squish page where the Join form is on the actual splash page eliminating 2 steps and hunting for a join button on a home page. It only stands to reason click through are more often a referral.
Here is an example of my Squish page:
So whats the point to this blog post?

What is more important to a TE: New members or returning members?
BOTH are important.
I know getting new faces in exchanges are important and can increase the results of a traffic exchanges effectiveness. But its also more expensive to get them to join in the first place. Don’t get me wrong you have to have new members coming in and seeing what Traffic exchanges can do. New members are testing the waters and spending new money in an exchange and learning the ropes. There is a learning curve to te’s. I remember how cool it was to stay up till midnight seeing 1000 people visit my site in one day. and the craving to buy credits to do it again.
I also know that when a member returns they most often liked something about the site. For me it was getting 1000 people to see my site in one day. I was hooked big time.
I think people coming back to a site after they have joined is more important. What does it cost you to spend an extra min on a newsletter or a support ticket. Or giving a few credits because they had an issue.
It is free positive advertising cause a happy member might tell one person that they had a great experience with a site, but give them poor service watch how fast 10 people hear about how bad a site is. Returning members is everything you have. If they never intend to come back they will never upgrade or refer others to the site. Harder to get them to see the results using the traffic exchange only for one day.
But good customer service and being attentive Is low cost and high reward. This will help you get more members to your traffic exchange everyday.
Part two is actually a fun step
Get social –
Have you ever looked at forums or other blog post? You see the same question “How do I get more visitors to my website?” or “ “do traffic exchanges work?” – How do I get more visitors to my website – has 222,000,000 results in google alone. Just begging for a Traffic exchange Fan or owner to say something.
What a perfect question for traffic exchange users to answer. What a great way to get you affiliate link added in a truly organic way. And owners ….. how are we not defending traffic exchanges and getting our side of the story told.
Ever comment on a youtube video. I have https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cVERyh9x8AY
Rachel was talking up traffic exchanges and promoting affiliate funnel. And im the only comment on there, this was a huge opportunity to show support the traffic exchange business.
I too can work on this myself and not just fan videos but also videos bashing traffic exchanges could use a comment too maybe as simple as I have been using traffic exchanges for 7 yeas and know they work.
add this to your marketing 5 days a week and spend a half hour doing before you know it you will have commented over 261 times and most likely have that many links back to your site / affiliate link or at very least people will question if traffic exchanges work.
Part 3 Should be here soon
I have spent a couple days joining a lot of traffic exchanges. I actually reading emails from time to time now just to see what and where other owners heads are at.
I am not pointing out any one site and Lets face it. I don’t know everything about online marketing. With that said.
I see owners making what I believe to be the same mistakes over and over again. So I made a list of them issues I have noticed that are very likely hurting your business.
Using Stock stuff on a site –
It’s the Home page ad copy or the offers you have with the same template as everyone else. Don’t use the same font in the same bold face with no changes to the almost 500 words No one will read it. Its hard on the eyes
No! Emails are not a bad thing, unless it’s with a negative tone or UN-formatted* or just too long. Good emails work to get people excited and take action. Formatted at 50- 60 spaces and less than 2 scrolls.
( I say this as a rule not the exception ) * http://formatit.com/ great formatting tool for emails.
Adding too much
A great sandwich doesn’t have 500 elements for 800 other sandwiches. Right? A traffic exchange is no different. Some people set out to be the PB&J traffic exchanges. Then add cash surfing and prize pages and cash to join and low timers and millions of credits give always. Before long you have a sandwich that’s 5 feet high and no one can eat. Or a TE that no one can use. Don’t do too much be a great turkey and swiss.
Show your Site.
This, to me is the biggest mistake hands down. If no one can see your ads No one will join. It takes about *12,000 hits to get 7 or so referrals a day. If you’re getting 200 hits a day you know why your site is not growing. This is just traffic exchange I’m talking about. so if you sending more hits to the new launch this week and not your own exchange. The issue is the owner. Change that and watch others start affiliating your program more. ( im not saying you can send some traffic for a launch from time to time) but your site has to be seen or no one knows your there.
* this is a ball park – my tracking is just an estimate for how other te’s will do.
rather than take my word for it Just look at the top ( 5 traffic exchanges)
