When I first got in to this business. I didn’t look around. I joined a site and a few months later bought it.
See this business is made out entirely of people like me. You just need to be crazy enough to Jump. I NOT telling everyone to run over to a script site and buy one.
In fact that’s 100% the last thing I’m suggesting. Being an owner takes Many elements
thick skin – I have seen owners bash on other owners for years about this surf ratio or this add on or this business practice. It happens. If you’re doing well people will dislike your moving up and you not doing crap people will abandon you.
Money – it takes more money then you want to part with. I can’t tell you the amount of people that told me they were going to change the business and they don’t have to spend money. They are gone now but it sounded good in theory. Spend money this is a business it take money to make money.
Time – Some will say doing it as a hobby will never work. I say they are full of it. SO MANY started out as a part time thing. Some of the biggest were doing something else before and while they were learning the craft of Online Marketing. Heck I know some people that put in as many hours as I do and they are …. Part time.
Heart – To some degree all the others can be fudged on a little. But not heart if you don’t like what your doing WHY THE HELL ARE YOU DOING IT. To be an owner you going to find a way to get things done, you didn’t know you could do. Server stuff – graphics – coding- html/css- video- sales copy – seo. I can keep going on and on. But no heart you don’t stand a chance I will eat your lunch. While you’re playing Facebook games, Im working on a project. While you go to the mall for a new shirt I’m typing away trying to learn one little thing to make my site better. All I want is to make my site just a little better or a little simpler or a little more profitable each day.
I eat like crap – I sleep like crap – my wife and kids hear “Just give me like ten mins.” 200+ times a week. I love what I’m doing. I get so mad at things and I go crazy when I cant fix something. But its cause I love what I do.
People told me over 6 years ago my site was too hard to understand they didn’t get IT. 6 years later Im still here still growing and still learning. Still getting better. So I ask do you have what it takes to be an owner? If not be a killer affiliate. This business needs good affilates WAY more then half hearted owners.
PS want to see a Very shining example of some one working hard to be an amazing affiliate? Check Out What Ruben is doing
Keep it going Ruben and thanks for promoting IT
Are you playing at the highest level? is an amazing question.
Every day someone is launching a New Mailer or a Traffic exchange or PTC ect. The odds are its got bone stock ad copy on the home page. It might have Stock join images. Or worst of yet its all bone stock. In fact more than 50% of all the sites are this way.
This is Not the Highest level Not by a long shot.
Everyday people surf in order to get this prize or that prize. And odds are they just missed the site that is going to be their Number one affiliate site Because they are entered for a 1 dollar prize leaving hundreds of dollars on the table in affiliate commissions.
This is not playing at the Highest level.
Today and yesterday there is a member that got one referral in 5 + programs. Because they thought Im going to do this my way. Im going to build a page and its going to be uniquely my own. And im going to promote the crap out of it.
This is uniquely at the highest level
Today someone will be more interested in Playing fruit-topia. Because its hard work to get 10,000 views to their affiliate page each and every day. They see it as a relentless task. And will become a sad statistic when their affiliate program closes due to lack of funds interest and support.
Sadly not the highest level.
Today one member will see commissions for the first time. And they will be hooked. They will work harder tomorrow because of today. And learn tips and tricks. They will do well and for as long as they keep pushing their own personal best. Not cause they have the extra time or spend thousands but cause they seen smelled and enjoyed the benefits of hard work. they were relentless in their marketing and their affiliate efforts. OH and they won some prizes along the way too.
This is the Highest level.
So which one are you ?
People way to often approach their traffic exchanges much in the same fashion they approach life. Not always a bad thing but often not a positive for your site and the business it represents.
When I was exploring the idea of owning a manual exchange. I asked questions. Got advice and started building a plan – Not a site a plan. People like Paul Kinder pointing me to where to get information and learn about traffic exchanges. Vern Chumbley talking to me about building my downlines to lower the cost of marketing. Tony Tezak sounding like a broken record when it came to promoting my site first and most. And countless other sources.
but all the advice in the world is crap unless you do something with it. And this goes back to the point of this blog post. Are you doing the work to make your site standout? To make it unique?
Like life business needs history, today, and long term. But sadly many only are here for today. It shows when a new launch hits and you see people scrambling to get a couple referrals in this new program.
I cant tell you how many sites I have joined only to see a 35 dollar oto and just know that there is no long term for this site.
How many times have you seen the same ad copy on a traffic exchange. Google search ” With our Click and Surf System you earn traffic ” See how many Traffic exchanges and Mailers you find.
How many times have you passed on a bone stock OTO without reading a single word cause it’s the Template you have seen on 97 other exchanges in the last year.
How many times have you seen this same join now button?
How many times do you get the exact same email from 20 different sites? “Claim Your Login Spotlight Reward”
I would say only about 1 in 60 traffic exchanges do the work to make themselves unique. Step away from the herd this is not a hard task. 40 bucks and an hour or two of work and everything on this list is checked off. If you want more new members in the site do the work.
Im not saying close the site im not saying walk away. Im saying stop being lazy and start working on your business. Give your site a chance to stand out from the rest. But if you don’t want to then close it down and be a proud affiliate.
All the best,
There are Some bright spots in Affiliate marketing. One of them bright Spots is that A HUGE amount of people with give as little effort as humanly possible.
So why is this good news?
Cause you can walk up and take their results without even having to try. Lets do a for example.
Take any affiliate page from a TE EVER!!!! How many people are promoting it? A BUNCH! How many times have you seen it? A Bunch ! How many times has other people seen it? Bunch! And how eye catching is an ad you have seen for the last 5 years? Not really at all!
I have done pretty well ( not life changing but pretty well) making and building my own splash pages. I know the pages work well because they are not something you see every day hundreds of times a day but because its unique and gets people to notice.
Here is an example of such pages
Im not showing off here. I know the pages are pretty bad, BUT I also know there more effective than a regular Splash page from the affiliate toolboxes. Just imagine if I spent a few bucks to have a real nice professional one made.
Want to get more referrals? Want to get more in commissions as an affiliate? Then Do more than the other guys and gals. Its not hard to do that little extra effort makes all the difference in the world.
What is more important to a TE: New members or returning members?
BOTH are important.
I know getting new faces in exchanges are important and can increase the results of a traffic exchanges effectiveness. But its also more expensive to get them to join in the first place. Don’t get me wrong you have to have new members coming in and seeing what Traffic exchanges can do. New members are testing the waters and spending new money in an exchange and learning the ropes. There is a learning curve to te’s. I remember how cool it was to stay up till midnight seeing 1000 people visit my site in one day. and the craving to buy credits to do it again.
I also know that when a member returns they most often liked something about the site. For me it was getting 1000 people to see my site in one day. I was hooked big time.
I think people coming back to a site after they have joined is more important. What does it cost you to spend an extra min on a newsletter or a support ticket. Or giving a few credits because they had an issue.
It is free positive advertising cause a happy member might tell one person that they had a great experience with a site, but give them poor service watch how fast 10 people hear about how bad a site is. Returning members is everything you have. If they never intend to come back they will never upgrade or refer others to the site. Harder to get them to see the results using the traffic exchange only for one day.
But good customer service and being attentive Is low cost and high reward. This will help you get more members to your traffic exchange everyday.
Part two is actually a fun step
Get social –
Have you ever looked at forums or other blog post? You see the same question “How do I get more visitors to my website?” or “ “do traffic exchanges work?” – How do I get more visitors to my website – has 222,000,000 results in google alone. Just begging for a Traffic exchange Fan or owner to say something.
What a perfect question for traffic exchange users to answer. What a great way to get you affiliate link added in a truly organic way. And owners ….. how are we not defending traffic exchanges and getting our side of the story told.
Ever comment on a youtube video. I have https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cVERyh9x8AY
Rachel was talking up traffic exchanges and promoting affiliate funnel. And im the only comment on there, this was a huge opportunity to show support the traffic exchange business.
I too can work on this myself and not just fan videos but also videos bashing traffic exchanges could use a comment too maybe as simple as I have been using traffic exchanges for 7 yeas and know they work.
add this to your marketing 5 days a week and spend a half hour doing before you know it you will have commented over 261 times and most likely have that many links back to your site / affiliate link or at very least people will question if traffic exchanges work.
Part 3 Should be here soon
I have spent a couple days joining a lot of traffic exchanges. I actually reading emails from time to time now just to see what and where other owners heads are at.
I am not pointing out any one site and Lets face it. I don’t know everything about online marketing. With that said.
I see owners making what I believe to be the same mistakes over and over again. So I made a list of them issues I have noticed that are very likely hurting your business.
Using Stock stuff on a site –
It’s the Home page ad copy or the offers you have with the same template as everyone else. Don’t use the same font in the same bold face with no changes to the almost 500 words No one will read it. Its hard on the eyes
No! Emails are not a bad thing, unless it’s with a negative tone or UN-formatted* or just too long. Good emails work to get people excited and take action. Formatted at 50- 60 spaces and less than 2 scrolls.
( I say this as a rule not the exception ) * http://formatit.com/ great formatting tool for emails.
Adding too much
A great sandwich doesn’t have 500 elements for 800 other sandwiches. Right? A traffic exchange is no different. Some people set out to be the PB&J traffic exchanges. Then add cash surfing and prize pages and cash to join and low timers and millions of credits give always. Before long you have a sandwich that’s 5 feet high and no one can eat. Or a TE that no one can use. Don’t do too much be a great turkey and swiss.
Show your Site.
This, to me is the biggest mistake hands down. If no one can see your ads No one will join. It takes about *12,000 hits to get 7 or so referrals a day. If you’re getting 200 hits a day you know why your site is not growing. This is just traffic exchange I’m talking about. so if you sending more hits to the new launch this week and not your own exchange. The issue is the owner. Change that and watch others start affiliating your program more. ( im not saying you can send some traffic for a launch from time to time) but your site has to be seen or no one knows your there.
* this is a ball park – my tracking is just an estimate for how other te’s will do.
rather than take my word for it Just look at the top ( 5 traffic exchanges)
